Term 1 Dance- Recap & Videos!
Hello! My name is Ellie Haines and I have been fortunate enough to teach your children Dance for Semester 1, 2021. All students have been so welcoming and bring positive vibes to the Dance Hall every week! I have been SO impressed with all student's 'give it a go' attitude and am so excited for you to see your children shine in the first OLC Dance Concert on the last day of Term 2!
Year 3 Dance: Summer & Winter
In Term 1 the Year 3 students were exploring movement using
the different weather seasons as inspiration. In small groups students used this
theme to choreograph their own dance routines. All student’s creativity, teamwork
and enthusiasm in this task was outstanding. Each class focused on Summer or
Winter and brainstormed different dance moves that showcase what we enjoy in
these seasons. All Small Groups performed on stage in front of the class, some
even bringing costumes in from home for their performance! Please find the
video link at the end of this blog to watch each group’s performance- all
groups chose their own group name so please ask your child which group they
were a part of 😊
Year 4 Dance: Sport
The theme for the Year 4 students this semester was ‘Sport’
and how different types of sports can influence dance movement and
choreography. This theme was extremely successful with small group work and
really highlighted all student’s unique skills and sporting abilities through
dance! I was very impressed with each group’s interpretation of the theme, how well
they all worked together in the allocated groups and how they incorporated the ‘Elements
of Dance Checklist’ into their choreography. All Small Groups performed on
stage in front of the class, with Mr Mc’s class inviting their PP Buddy class
to watch! It was great to see some groups bringing costumes in from home for
their performance! Please find the video link at the end of this blog to watch each
performance- I know you will be as impressed as I am!
Year 5 Dance: Halloween
In Term 1 the Year 5 students choreographed movement reminiscing zombies, monsters, skeletons and trick or treaters as our focus theme was Halloween! I was very impressed with each group’s resilience, having numerous group members absent for performance day and bringing the attitude of ‘the show must go on’ and delivering excellent routines! The ‘Elements of Dance Checklist’ encouraged students to incorporate the use of canons, contrast, unison, different levels and repetition into their choreography. All Small Groups performed on stage in front of the class, some even bringing costumes and props in from home for their performance! Please find the video link at the end of this blog to watch each group’s performance 😊
Year 6 Dance: School’s Out!
WOW- what a fantastic group
of dancers! School’s Out’ was the inspiration this semester and all students were
outstanding in their small group choreography tasks with all groups bringing something
new and exciting to their pieces. Learning how to incorporate props was another
interesting component of the task which really benefitted all routines and
bought the school theme to life with the use of chairs, desks, books, laptops
and whiteboards! The ‘Elements of Dance
Checklist’ encouraged students to incorporate the use of canons, contrast,
unison, different levels and repetition into their choreography. All Small Groups performed on stage
in front of the class, some even bringing costumes in from home for their
performance! Please find the video link at the end of this blog to watch each group’s
performance 😊
I hope you have all enjoyed your holiday break. I will create a Dance Concert blog post closer to the performance date. If you have any questions please email me at ellie.haines@cewa.edu.au
